International Scientific Conference: “Next Europe: Interdisciplinary perspectives on the Western Balkans”
nexteuropeThe European University of Tirana organized the final conference of the Jean Monnet Project ALEURD 2012-2015 titled ‘Next Europe’. In the framework of an earlier cooperation established between UET and La Sapienza University of Rome, the Conference ‘Next Europe Network – Reformation and Democratization of the Western Balkan’, took place on the 25th-26th June 2015.

Albanian Studies Days
In the  framework of Jean Monnet Chair Project

asdIn April 24/25/26 2015 at the European University of Tirana was held the international conference “Albanian Studies Days” with the participation of international experts like Garbriel Partosh, Bernd Fischer, Elez biberaj, as well as Albanian public policy makers like Minister of Defense Mimi Kodheli, former Prime Minister Ylli Bufi.

At the conference the Jean Monnet Chair, Prof. Dr. Adrian Civici - at the same time President of European University of Tirana delivered a welcoming speech regarding the Albanian experience of democracy and transition. According to Prof. Civici the transition period experienced by our country was used for the radical transformation of society, politics, economy, and the psychological concept of Albanian citizens.

aulaciviciThe Jean Monnet Chair Prof. Dr. Adrian Civici delivered an open lecture on the topic “Albanians and social European model”.  The lecture was held at the European University of Tirana, Aula Manga Auditorium with the collaboration of “Friedrich Ebert Stiftung” Foundation and also with the participation of policy makers in Albania such as Prof. Dr. Arben Malaj (former Minister), Dr. Marko Bello (former Minister),  and Dr. Agim Nesho (former Ambassador). Students from the European University of Tirana and other High Education Institutions participated in this opened lecture.

Open lectures in HEIs

Information Day

outrOn 16 January 2015, the Agency of Research, Technology and Innovation in collaboration with the European University of Tirana organized an Information Day at UET about the possibilities for application at the new calls of the European Programme Horizon 2020, the cooperation possibilities with the Joint Research Centres (JRC) and the efficient ways of cooperating with the Euraxess Network which also promotes The European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers.  The researchers of this university welcomed the event and were ready to participate in the European programmes. This info day was supported by the Jean Monnet Chair Project, financed by the European Commission.

  • Profesor habil Januzs Ruskowski (Jean Monnet Chair) and Profesor Peter Balazs (Jean Monnet Ad Personum)  were invited at the European University of Tirana to deliver open lecture for EU Policy students.

The Chair intends to develop knowledge and disseminate information on EU and Albanian regional development to students who are not directly involved in European studies by organizing four open lectures per year in HEIs.

Roundtables with local government and NGOs

Jean Monnet Chair Prof. Assoc. Dr. Nevila Xhindi participates in an informal meeting organized by the EU Info Centre

The Chair organize regional roundtables, in accordance with the 12 administrative regions in Albania, with local government representatives, NGOs and other regional stakeholders in order to address their needs and strengthen their knowledge and capacities in regards to EU and regional development. The Jean Monnet Chair aims at to developing reflection activities which articulate a broad conceptual framework for the development of structural funds while ensuring flow of information and training to stakeholders that represent potential capacities to absorb EU structural funds;

Media Coverage

During the life span of the project activities Jean Monnet Key Staff Erjona Canaj PhD was invited to the national media SCAN TV to discuss about the free movement of Albanian citizens in the European Union. It has been four years now since Albanians have the right  of free movement (Shengen) and  this has already changed the whole concept of Albanians on the free movement and the European culture. During these years Albanians have significantly improved their efforts to be free citizens towards European Union

  • The Jean Monnet Chair - ‘Mëngjes me Endrin’ at AS Television

The Jean Monnet Chair, Dr. Nevila Xhindi, discussed the visit of the Commissioner responsible for enlargement and European neighbourhood policy, Mr. Stefan Fule, in Albania at the programme ‘Mëngjes me Endrin’ at the Albanian Screen Television, on the 05th February 2013. Dr. Xhindi provided insights about the relevance of Mr. Fule’s visit in the integration process in Albania. See the video for more.
